Information on Molecularly Distilled Fish Oil

The purity of fish oil supplements is a paramount concern.  Running almost in parallel with the popularity of omega 3/fish oil supplements is the concern by many health experts over high levels of hazardous contaminants present in various species of cold water fish.  The FDA has gone so far as to say that pregnant women, in particular, need to limit their intake of fresh fish because of high concentrations of heavy metals such as mercury and lead, and other toxins.  The same caution applies to fish oil supplements if special purification techniques are not used in the manufacturing process.

The purification method most commonly used is molecular distillation.  This process uses low heat and a chemical process to remove heavy metals, PCBs and other man-made pollutants.  Molecular distillation also concentrates the most beneficial components, the EPA and DHA fish oil.
