Kosher Fish Oil

The essential fish oils are the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.  They are considered “essential” because they are necessary for human health, but cannot be created by the human body.  So, they must be present in the human diet.  The components of most fish oil or omega 3 supplements, as well as the preparation of the concentrated ingredients pose a challenge to those who keep Kosher.

Kosher fish oil capsules are prepared in accordance with Jewish dietary law and are not supposed to have any non-Kosher animal products involved in the manufacturing process.  The fish used in the production of kosher fish oil must be carefully inspected to confirm that they are kosher species, and the production facility should also be certified as kosher, confirming that non-kosher materials are not handled there, or that they are carefully isolated to prevent cross-contamination.  This added purity makes it a good fish oil dietary supplement for pregnant women.

These fish oils allow people who have strong religious beliefs enjoy the natural benefits of the omegas found in fish oils (such as using fish oil to lower cholesterol), without betraying their initial beliefs and foundations.  If a product is certified as kosher, it will be clearly marked as such on the label.
