DHA Fish Oil
DHA Omega-3, or docosahexaenoic acid, is a polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid ‘good fat’ crucial to overall health. It is the most abundant omega-3 fatty acid found in cell membranes throughout the body, most importantly the brain, heart, and eye tissues. A once daily DHA fish oil supplement is required because few people ever get the recommended amount of DHA omega-3 from their diet. Numerous scientific studies confirm that everyone, from infants to adults, benefit from an adequate supply of DHA as well as EPA Eicosapentaenoic acid.
As an important essential fatty acid that is a building block for cells throughout the body, DHA supports cardiovascular health and optimal brain function. It is also considered to have a long term positive impact on the avoidance of several chronic illnesses such as prostate cancer, breast cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. In terms of eye health, the most recent research points to its usefulness in preventing, or lessening the severity of, cataracts and macular degeneration.
One of the main causes of heart disease–much more indicative than simply elevated cholesterol levels–is high blood triglycerides. DHA supplements, derived from fish oil, are the most readily available omega-3 source needed for naturally lowering high triglycerides without drugs (statins such as Zocor® and Lipitor®). Increased daily intake of DHA will also improve the HDL/LDL ratio which will reduce arterial plaque, which is another important risk factor to be monitored.
